There are a lot of things about commuting on public transit in a city that can make you want to stab your own eyes out. And sometimes, there are really beautiful things that make you believe in humanity again.
Having it all isn’t about being a mom, or even a woman. It’s about unexpectedly being hit with a sense of longing so intense, with the voices in your head screaming that you’re on the wrong path, that it leaves you in tears at a cafe. What does it mean to you?
This started out to be notes to myself, a thinking out loud on paper exercise to help me do some self-discovery. Then it started to sound to me like a Meg Tripp blog post (which I always enjoy) so I went ahead and hit the “Publish” button.
If you’re reading this, chances are you remember mix tapes and miss them. The sheer labor involved in making one let you know right away how important you were to the mix-maker. I’ve received many mixes in my life in various formats, but three mix tapes in particular stand out as life-changers.
I think the expression “Sometimes the best defense is a good offense” has it backwards. Sometimes the best offense is a good defense.
